What Happens to Your Saved YouTube TV Shows When a Channel Gets Dropped
YouTube TV is about to shrink its channel lineup. Three networks — Court TV, Tastemade, and The Young Turks — are being removed from the service on September 30. The removal also takes Tastemade Español from the Spanish Plus add-on and Tastemade's 4K feed from the 4K Plus add-on, according to Cord Cutters News.
Subscribers who recorded anything from those channels will lose those recordings too. TheDesk.net reported that stored programs from the three networks become inaccessible on October 1. Live streams and saved copies disappear from the cloud DVR at the same time.
No public explanation for the lineup change has been issued. YouTube TV sent affected customers a note about the removal, but did not say why the networks were cut. A source familiar with the decision told TheDesk that the service is choosing to prioritize broad-appeal channels — entertainment, movies, sports, and news — over lifestyle and niche programming.
This follows a familiar pattern in the pay-TV business. Streaming services do not own most of the networks they carry. Instead, they pay the network owner a carriage fee for every subscriber who receives it. Cord Cutters News notes that providers periodically review how much viewing each channel generates relative to those fees. Networks with smaller audiences and narrower appeal are more vulnerable when agreements come up for renewal. Losing three niche channels does not mean YouTube TV is struggling; it means the company is making a calculation about which channels are worth their cost.
The affected programming is not vanishing from the market. Court TV still appears on DIRECTV and Fubo, as well as free streaming platforms such as Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, and Tubi. Tastemade continues on several paid live-TV services and on free ad-supported options including The Roku Channel, Samsung TV Plus, and Xumo Play. The Young Turks keeps publishing on its main YouTube channel, where much of the same content can be seen at no extra cost. Channel availability varies by service, so viewers should check each platform's current lineup.
What subscribers actually lose is convenience. YouTube TV sells a single subscription with a large bundle and a cloud DVR, and that combination is a major reason people choose it. This change is a reminder that the DVR library is not a personal archive. The recordings exist under the service's licensing agreements, and once those agreements end, the stored copies can be pulled.
If you have shows saved from Court TV, Tastemade, or The Young Turks, the recordings will be gone after September 30. The only practical moves are to find those networks elsewhere or accept the loss. For most viewers, that means stacking a free app or a separate subscription alongside YouTube TV — not replacing the whole service.
