What South Korea vs Venezuela’s Confirmed Lineup Reveals About the Final Friendly

South Korea close out a three-match international window with a home friendly against Venezuela on Oct. 2. The match kicks off at 8 p.m. local time at the Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium. The confirmed team, reported by Korea’s MK, shows that head coach Roberto Moreno is using the fixture as a deeper squad test.

The window started well and then wobbled. South Korea beat Ecuador 3-0 but lost 4-1 to Uruguay. That heavy defeat makes the final friendly more than a routine exercise, especially with several changes to the starting XI.

A goalkeeper rotation in goal

Kim Seung-gyu started the first two matches. This time Song Bum-keun gets the shirt. Song is viewed as the best goalkeeper in the K League 1, so the switch has nothing to do with a drop in quality. It gives South Korea a proper look at a second option in a live match.

Hwang In-beom returns after missing two games

Hwang In-beom was left out of the squad for the Ecuador and Uruguay matches because of poor physical condition. His return is the other significant piece of team news. He starts alongside Park Jin-seop in central midfield, which should give South Korea more control in the middle than it had against Uruguay.

Kim Min-soo goes from debut to start

The most eye-catching selection is Kim Min-soo. He made his senior debut on Sept. 24 against Ecuador and came on as a substitute against Uruguay on Sept. 28. Now he starts his third cap. The rapid promotion is based on what he showed in those brief appearances: quick dribbling and confident shooting. This is a reward, and also a test of whether he can produce from the first minute.

The confirmed 4-4-2

South Korea line up in a 4-4-2 formation. Son Heung-min and Oh Hyun-kyu lead the attack. Hwang In-beom and Park Jin-seop sit in central midfield. Kim Min-soo and Lee Kang-in hold the wide positions. Kim Min-jae and Lee Han-beom form the centre-back pairing, with Cho Hyun-taek and Seol Young-woo at full-back.

The shape is familiar, but the personnel are not. Cho Hyun-taek, Oh Hyun-kyu and Kim Min-soo were not regular starters before this window. Lee Han-beom’s central defensive role is also a change.

Why the friendly matters

International friendlies carry less weight than qualifiers, but they give coaches evidence. Moreno now gets a direct comparison between two goalkeepers. He gets a returning midfielder playing a full match against a demanding opponent. And he gets a fast-rising newcomer trying to hold down a spot.

The result on the pitch may be secondary. The lineup is the first statement. It shows a coach willing to rotate, reward form and look beyond the established names.
