Tampa Bay counters with Ian Seymour, a lefty at 9-6 with a 4.27 ERA and 150 strikeouts. ESPN's fantasy analysis flagged Seymour as a strong play against a Red Sox lineup that has struggled with left-handed pitching of late.
Home field tilts the scale toward Tampa. The Rays are 53-25 at Tropicana Field and have outscored opponents by 80 runs overall. For Boston, the task is to quiet a hot team on its own turf while protecting a lead that is comfortable but not clinched. For Tampa Bay, the goal is simpler: finish the job.
