What Happened in Qusra, West Bank, When Settlers Attacked a Home and a News Crew

This article reconstructs the settler attacks in the West Bank villages of Qusra and nearby Jalud on August 29, 2026, from witness accounts, and shows how those events fit a documented pattern of violence.

One Day, Two Attacks

Dozens of masked Israeli settlers attacked homes around Qusra on August 29, 2026, according to Al-Monitor. Witnesses said settlers surrounded a Palestinian home and threw stones while seven people were trapped inside. Asharq Al-Awsat reported that the confrontation began when a handful of villagers working on a house were approached by settlers who then called in backup; dozens soon surrounded the Palestinians.

Saddam Oday, a medic among those trapped, said Israeli forces fired tear gas into the home and detained the residents. He said the settlers were allowed to leave. Luay Bayruti, the homeowner, told Al-Monitor that those inside were handcuffed, blindfolded, and beaten before being released.

The same day, in nearby Jalud, masked settlers attacked Palestinian woman Aida Ahmed Abdullah and an NBC News team, according to NBC News. The attackers arrived in a gray car with Israeli plates, jumped out, and hit the crew with sticks while throwing rocks. Correspondent Matt Bradley was struck twice in the arm, and two other crew members were injured. Abdullah was treated by the Red Crescent, and her injuries were not life-threatening.

A Difference Over Who Was Arrested

The Israeli military said it dispatched soldiers and border police after reports of “Israeli rioters” and stone-hurling. It said forces removed rioters from a Palestinian home and confiscated vehicles suspected of being used to reach the area.

Residents described a different sequence. They said troops detained the people inside the home and beat them, while the settlers who arrived at the scene were not taken into custody. The military’s account did not resolve that difference.

Commands and the Broader Record

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the Qusra violence as the work of “a handful of rioters.” Doron Spielman, an Israeli government spokesman, also condemned the attack on Abdullah and the NBC crew.

Those statements landed against a longer record. Al-Monitor cited a UN inquiry from June 2026 that found Israeli authorities directly involved in settler attacks that have killed, injured, and displaced Palestinians. Asharq Al-Awsat reported that settler violence has persisted for years with little legal consequence and that recent months have seen a surge. UN data covering January 1 to July 24, 2026 recorded 76 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces or settlers and 3 Israelis killed in the same period.

Violence That Lands on a Single House

The Qusra attacks turned abstract figures into a concrete scene: a home surrounded, seven people trapped, journalists hit in the arm, and one woman treated for injuries. They also produced a striking contrast. Attackers arrived by car and left, while the people inside the house waited to see whether the soldiers outside would treat them as victims or suspects.
