Natalie Harp’s White House Role: What Does Trump’s Executive Assistant Do?

Natalie Harp is a White House employee whose formal title combines two jobs: special assistant to the president and executive assistant to the president. The White House’s annual staff report lists her as an employee earning $150,000 a year. ProPublica’s review of her financial disclosure says she was selected for the position in January 2025.

The titles describe access and support, but they do not fully capture the daily work. An executive assistant close to the president may organize schedules, prepare briefing materials, coordinate travel, relay requests and manage the steady flow of documents that reaches the Oval Office. A special assistant designation can cover additional political, communications or administrative duties. The White House has not published a detailed job description for Harp.

From television host to presidential aide

Before joining the administration, Harp worked as a host for One America News Network and became involved with Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign. She also spoke at the 2020 Republican National Convention, where she described her experience with bone cancer and credited Trump’s Right to Try law with helping her pursue an experimental treatment.

That account is part of Harp’s public biography, but it needs legal and medical context. The federal Right to Try Act does not guarantee a patient access to a treatment, and it does not require a drug manufacturer to provide one. The Food and Drug Administration says eligible patients must have a life-threatening condition, have exhausted approved options, be unable to join a clinical trial and seek a qualifying investigational drug. The agency’s role under the law is limited compared with its role in approving medicines.

Why the personal-aide role carries weight

Presidents rely on large teams, but only a small number of aides remain within arm’s reach during travel, meetings and unstructured working time. That proximity can make an assistant a gatekeeper: someone who helps decide which papers reach the president, which requests receive attention and how quickly information moves.

CNN has reported that Harp carries a portable printer and produces printed material for Trump, earning her the nickname “the human printer.” Reuters photographs have also identified her as Trump’s executive assistant during Oval Office events. Government records separately show her accompanying the president on official activities.

Those records establish her position and access, not the full extent of her influence. The White House has not publicly assigned her a major policy portfolio, and available documents do not show that she has authority comparable to a cabinet secretary, chief of staff or Senate-confirmed adviser. Her significance lies instead in the trusted, highly personal nature of the job: she operates close to the president while handling information, logistics and communication that support his work.
