What Is Kill Jackie About, Who Stars in It and Where Was It Filmed?

Catherine Zeta-Jones stars in Kill Jackie as a woman whose carefully built life turns into a violent fight for survival. This guide breaks down the show's premise, cast, Welsh filming locations and streaming options.

A freeport fortune, a dead body and a killer twist

Kill Jackie is a crime-caper-comedy-thriller. The Guardian's review calls it a comeback vehicle for Catherine Zeta-Jones, and the story starts in the art world.

Zeta-Jones plays Jackie Price, who has spent 20 years building an art business on customs benefits and tax reliefs available in certain exclusionary zones known as freeports. The Guardian explains that this financial setup is the source of Jackie's success. The review adds a skeptical note: Bilbao, one of the show's settings, does not appear to have a freeport in real life.

That comfortable setup does not last. A dead body appears in the flat across from Jackie's. Paintings on her walls rise to reveal machine guns, which fire on intruders. Jackie, it turns out, is moving into assassination work and is on probation with a gang called the Seven Demons. The Guardian describes the Seven Demons as the most feared of all assassin gangs and teases a contract that points back at Jackie herself.

Who plays whom

Zeta-Jones leads the cast. Hattie Hook plays Charlie, Jackie's semi-competent assistant. Daniel Ings plays Sam, a lawyer the review describes as "fanciable." Sidse Babett Knudsen appears as Karenina, and Darci Shaw is also in the cast.

Where it was filmed

The action starts in London and later moves to Bilbao. The production also has a Welsh footprint. Wales Online has published a full list of Kill Jackie's Welsh filming locations, which confirms the series was at least partly shot in Wales.

Whether those Welsh locations stand in for London, Bilbao or somewhere else is not made clear in the available reviews.

Where to watch it

The Guardian says Kill Jackie is on Prime Video now. A review at RogerEbert.com refers to the series as an AMC+ title, so the show may be available through different platforms in different markets. In the UK, the service named in the Guardian review is Prime Video.

What the first reviews say

The Guardian's verdict is harsh. It compares Kill Jackie to Killing Eve and argues that the show has the assassin-thriller structure without the good characters or plot to back it up. The review also says the series compensates with heavy artillery, throwing as much as possible at the screen and seeing what sticks.

RogerEbert.com's review uses the title as a setup for a pun, framing "Kill Jackie" as a question and taking a stab at an answer.

Kill Jackie may not be the next Killing Eve, but it puts Catherine Zeta-Jones back in a full action-comedy lead role and gives streaming audiences a gun-heavy story built around freeports, Welsh locations and a very literal title.
