How to Check a Kerala Lottery Ticket and Claim a Prize Safely

Kerala State Lotteries are government-run paper lotteries administered by the Directorate of Kerala State Lotteries. The programme began in 1967 and now includes recurring weekly lotteries, bumper draws, and published prize structures. Each draw uses a named lottery series and draw number, such as Samrudhi or Karunya, followed by an official result document. The Directorate says the programme was created both to generate state revenue and to provide income opportunities through ticket sales. (statelottery.kerala.gov.in)

How the result system works

A ticket normally contains a lottery name, draw number, series letters, and a six-digit number. The official result lists winning numbers by prize category. Some prizes are awarded to an exact ticket, while others apply to tickets matching specified ending digits. That means a ticket should be checked against the complete result, not only the first-prize number.

The government’s Lottery Information System, or LOTIS, maintains a results archive. For example, its current listing identifies the Samrudhi SM-68 draw and provides a downloadable result record. A result should be treated as confirmed only when the lottery name, draw number, date, series, and number all match the official record. (lotteryagent.kerala.gov.in)

The Kerala Lottery Official mobile application, listed by the Department of State Lotteries on Google Play, can also verify ticket authenticity, check results, and track the status of a prize claim. It is safer to use the department’s official website or the government-listed application than an unofficial result page. (play.google.com)

What to do after a win

  1. Keep the original ticket undamaged. Do not laminate it, alter it, or share unnecessary photographs of it.
  2. Sign the reverse side and enter the required name and address details as instructed by the department.
  3. Submit the claim promptly. The Directorate’s prize-claim instructions say winning tickets should generally be presented within 30 days of the draw; a late submission may require a written explanation.
  4. Prepare identification and banking documents. Larger claims may require self-attested copies of a PAN card, Aadhaar card, photographs, a bank passbook, and the prescribed claim forms.
  5. Use an authorised channel. Depending on the prize amount, claims may be handled through a lottery office, district office, authorised bank, or the Directorate.

Lottery winnings are taxable in India. The Income Tax Department states that lottery winnings are taxed at a special rate of 30 percent under Section 115BB, while Section 194B requires tax deduction at source on qualifying payments above the statutory threshold. The amount received after deductions may therefore be lower than the advertised prize. (wmstatic-prd.incometaxindia.gov.in)

A genuine lottery department should not require a separate payment, gift card, or private transfer to “release” a prize. When in doubt, contact the Directorate of Kerala State Lotteries directly and rely on its latest claim instructions.
