Why AMD's Radeon RX 10800 XT Is Being Tied to the RTX 5090 and RTX 6090

According to GameGPU's reporting, insider leaks from sources including Moore's Law is Dead and Kepler_L2 describe the Radeon RX 10800 XT as a Navi 5X-based card with up to 200 compute units, a 512-bit memory interface, up to 48 GB of GDDR7 memory, and clock speeds ranging from 3.1 to 3.4 GHz on a 3nm process. Those are flagship-level numbers on their own. The performance claim built on top of them is larger: GameGPU says the combination of the card's fill rate and 512-bit memory bandwidth could produce a 15–25% advantage over Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5090 in 4K gaming and local AI workloads.

The core count story is just as aggressive.

The same reporting says RDNA 5 would double the number of cores per compute unit from 64 to 128, giving the RX 10800 XT roughly 12,800 shader cores. That change alone would explain a substantial generational jump. But the more revealing shift is inside the AI hardware. AMD reportedly dropped the small matrix accelerators embedded in each SIMD unit and replaced them with larger unified Neural Arrays. GameGPU claims that an RDNA 5 neural array, after architectural improvements and higher clocks, delivers roughly 18 times the performance of the comparable block in the Radeon RX 9070 XT.

This is where the RTX 5090 rivalry stops being a simple frame-rate argument.

The neural array capacity is reportedly meant for FSR 5 Neural Rendering, AMD's next-generation upscaling and rendering technology. That puts the RX 10800 XT in direct competition with Nvidia on AI-accelerated graphics, not just raw rasterization. It also explains why local AI performance appears in the leaks: a large unified matrix engine is useful for generative models and neural rendering workloads far beyond gaming.

Another set of leaks, attributed to Moore's Law is Dead and internal documentation, goes even further. GameGPU reports that RDNA 5's total performance could surpass the RTX 5090 and approach Nvidia's next flagship, the GeForce RTX 6090. Both companies reportedly plan to launch their top-end cards in the same window, which gives the claim a practical frame of reference. Without shipping hardware, however, those projections remain just that.

What is missing is an official AMD answer. The specifications come from insider leaks and reported internal documents, not from a product announcement or a developer presentation. Leaked roadmaps often mix real plans with guesses, and final silicon frequently lands well below the early paper numbers. Until AMD confirms the design or reviewers test a finished card, the RX 10800 XT stays a rumor with unusually high expectations attached to it.
